This is a fantastic opportunity for an Intermediate AI Engineer to join a leading South African fintech organisation, developing and deploying agentic AI solutions within a growing AI engineering team.
You’ll work with LLMs, AI agents and orchestration frameworks, gaining valuable experience across the development lifecycle while building your expertise in Generative AI and agentic systems.
This permanent role is based in Cape Town, paying R840k per annum.

The business is expanding its AI engineering capabilities, investing in the development of agentic AI solutions to enhance its technology platforms and operational capabilities.
THE ROLE
As an Intermediate Agentic AI Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to build, test and deploy AI agents within a high-volume fintech environment.
You’ll contribute to the development of agent workflows, integrate LLMs with existing platforms and build your technical expertise in delivering AI solutions to production.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop AI agent workflows using LLMs, RAG, tool calling and orchestration.
- Integrate AI agents with APIs, data sources and existing platforms.
- Build, test and deploy AI features alongside senior engineers.
- Write clean, maintainable Python code.
- Develop evaluation tests to ensure agent accuracy, reliability and safety.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and improve AI agents in production.
- Collaborate with engineering, product and business teams.
- Contribute to AI engineering standards and technical improvements.
THE REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years’ experience in Software Engineering, AI/ML Engineering or a related technical field.
- Strong Python development skills.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs and LLM APIs.
- Understanding of RAG, embeddings, prompt engineering and tool calling.
- Experience working with REST APIs and JSON.
- Experience with Git and Docker.
- Understanding of software testing, debugging and development best practices.
- Experience with LangGraph, CrewAI or similar agent frameworks, MCP, AWS, C#/.NET and SQL would be advantageous.
